European Facial
The first step to the facial is to clean the face. This helps remove makeup and dirt from the face giving you an initial “fresh” clean. The next step is extraction. Extraction removes blackheads, whiteheads, and any other impurities within the face. A magnifying glass is usually used in the extraction process.
Following cleansing and extractions is the exfoliation process, done either chemically or mechanically. During exfoliation the old and dead skin cells are removed. For mechanical exfoliation, the spa professional will scrub your face with an abrasive treatment. For chemical exfoliation, scrubs containing salicylic acids, glycolic acids, fruit enzymes, or citric acids. These chemicals should be applied in low doses, and can be sold over the counter. Higher doses of these chemicals are only available when applied by a dermatologist.
Subsequent to exfoliation, a soothing mask is placed upon the client’s face. The mask is selected based on the client’s skin type. The client’s skin type may be dry, oily, sensitive, or a combination skin type.
A European facial concludes with a face, neck, and shoulder massage. This helps relieve tension in the body allowing for better blood flow and circulation.
